Biography

Pere Cánovas Aparicio is a renowned glass craftsman from Barcelona, born in 1930 in Sant Adrià de Besòs. Throughout his illustrious career, he has worked as a designer, painter, sculptor, and primarily as a master of stained glass. He began his training in the artistic glass workshop of Antoni Oriach and later at the Oriach-Alavedra workshop, where he worked for 28 years.

Cánovas has created stained glass windows for over two hundred churches in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and various international locations. Some of his most notable works in Barcelona include the Barcelona Cathedral, the church of Santa Maria del Mar, and the Basilica of Tibidabo. He also worked on the Güell Crypt and the Cathedral of Mallorca, where he restored stained glass windows designed by Gaudí and created new windows using traditional trichromy techniques.

In recognition of his outstanding craftsmanship, he was honored as Master Artist of Stained Glass by the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1997. In 2014, he was awarded the Medal of Honor of Barcelona for his exceptional artistic and professional contributions to the field of stained glass.
