Biography

Josep Maria Martí Bonet is a prominent historian, archivist, and priest, born on June 15, 1937, in Terrassa, Spain. He has been a significant figure in managing and preserving the cultural heritage of the Archdiocese of Barcelona. Ordained as a priest in 1961, Martí Bonet has held numerous key positions, including director of the Diocesan Archive and the Episcopal Public Library of the Barcelona Seminary since 1972, and director of the Museu Diocesà de Barcelona since 1989.

Martí Bonet has overseen more than 200 exhibitions, significantly contributing to the cultural landscape with notable shows like “Thesaurus” (1985) and “Gaudí: l’home i la seva obra” (2002). His work has earned him various accolades, such as the Creu de Sant Jordi in 1990 and the honor of being an academic of the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi in 2010. His dedication to the Church’s heritage has been recognized through the “Fides ex auditu” exhibition, celebrating his 50 years of service.
