Connecting the Legacy of Gaudí: Ulsan-Barcelona Technology Exchange Academic Event

On October 30, 2024, the Gaudí World Foundation, in collaboration with UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science & Technology) and SERA (Sustainable Environment Renewable Architecture), will host the “Connecting the Legacy of Great Innovators” seminar at UNIST in South Korea. This event celebrates the convergence of Barcelona’s rich architectural heritage with advanced sustainable technologies, reflecting the timeless influence of Gaudí’s architectural mastery on contemporary design and environmental responsibility.

Purpose

This academic gathering will delve into the legacy of Gaudí’s innovative methodologies, exploring how his visionary naturalism continues to inform modern architecture and sustainable development. Attendees will learn from leading experts on topics ranging from digital advancements in construction to the educational impact of Gaudí-inspired hackathons.

Seminar Lectures

This first session, will feature esteemed speakers from the Gaudí World Foundation and UNIST, who will explore various facets of Gaudí’s legacy and its impact on contemporary architecture:

  • Introduction to the Gaudí World Foundation (GWF): Presented by Alex Canals Grau and Lucas Martinez.

  • Modern Construction Methods: Sofya Abramchuk, Head of Design and Product at GWF, will discuss the integration of digital technology in Gaudí’s posthumous construction projects, focusing on La Sagrada Família.

  • Gaudí and the Enigma of Modernist Architecture: David Afonso, an architect collaborating with GWF, will share insights on Gaudí’s influence on Modernist architecture.

  • Communication Methods in Gaudí’s Architecture: Professor Jae-Won Cho from UNIST’s Department of Urban and Environmental Engineering will cover how Gaudí’s architectural methods communicated complex cultural messages.

Discussion and Closing

The event will conclude with an engaging Q&A and panel discussion. Under the moderation of Professor Hyo-Min Kim, this session will allow attendees to delve deeper into the intersection of naturalism and technology in Gaudí’s work.Topics Covered:

Panelists will include six experts from GWF and UNIST, including Alex Canals Grau and Lucas Martinez, who will provide insights into how Gaudí’s methods can inspire and address modern architectural challenges.
