Oriol Castro, born in 1974, is a renowned Spanish chef best known for his work at the iconic restaurant elBulli and for co-founding the acclaimed restaurants Disfrutar in Barcelona and Compartir in Cadaqués. After studying at the Joviat School and Barcelona’s Guild Pastry College, Castro joined elBulli in 1997, where he became a key figure in the kitchen and part of the creative team until its closure in 2011.
In 2012, Castro, along with fellow elBulli alumni Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas, opened Compartir, followed by Disfrutar in 2014. Both restaurants have received numerous accolades, with Disfrutar earning a Michelin star in its first year and later being named Best New European Restaurant by Opinionated About Dining. Castro’s culinary approach emphasizes creativity and innovation, continuing the avant-garde legacy of elBulli while establishing his own distinct culinary identity.
